Congrats to Xiao Kanjun for winning the title! Although only qualified 7th during the prelim because of a fall on UB, Xiao performed well on all four apparatus and eventually won the gold. Here is an interview from Xiao's coach Chao Peimin on how the gold is finally a dream comes true for Xiao, how Xiao also retired in 2005 after a serious injury from national games and her persistence finally pays off.
Kudos to Yamamoto and Polyan too, and they each scored highest on BB, and VT/FX respectively. During the post-game press conference, the lovely double bronze medalist so far Polyan thanked her coach/mom, and the emotional Yamamoto dedicated her team gold and AA silver to home rebuilding of earthquake/tsunami victims.
The top quantifier Hyunjoo Jo(KOR) had to withdraw from the competition due to a scary fall from UB and was sent to hospital. Report confirmed that the injury was minor and Jo had returned to the athletes village.
